GREENFIELD
Margaret Claire (Raftery) Havlin (aka: Peggy) passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024. She was 89 years old.Peggy was the daughter of Michael and Dorthea Raftery, born on December 31, 1934 and grew up on the east side of Indianapolis. She was the youngest of 7 children in a large Catholic Family, six girls and one boy. She held several jobs over the years, but the one she enjoyed the most was being a lunch lady for the Hancock County Schools as she loved getting to know the children and she said it made her feel young. She served for 20 years, retiring at 80 years young. She loved spending time with her family and all her 37 grandchildren/great grandchildren and their activities, relaxing in her pool, board games, cards, movies, traveling and Colts Football. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Greenfield.She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Dorthea Raftery, sisters, Dorothy Schneider, Betty Foley, Patty Bailey, Ruth Hock, Carolyn Shelby, brother, Michael Raftery, son Robert E Havlin Jr, daughter-in-law, Wanda Havlin, husband, Robert E. Havlin Sr.She is survived by her children, Peggy (Eric) Lawyer, Shirley, IN, Nancy (Carmen) Wethington, Donna (Jeff) Earnest, New Palestine, IN, Bill (Kay) Havlin, Zionsville, IN and Joe (Michelle) Havlin, Nineveh, IN and 37 grandchildren/ great grandchildren with 3 more great grandchildren expected to arrive later this year.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W US Highway 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Boulevard, Greenfield, IN 46140. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
