Love INC to celebrate two decades in banquet

GREENFIELD – The annual Love Thy Neighbor Banquet is coming up April 12, celebrating two decades of Love INC helping churches help people.

The event is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 12 at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N. 600 W., Greenfield.

Love INC, or Love in the Name of Christ, has a mission to mobilize local churches to transform lives and communities. The organization bridges resources by working with local churches, agencies and other community resources.

Mental health course Feb. 29

GREENFIELD – A course on how to help someone with a mental health problem is coming up.

Mental Health First Aid will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 29 at Purdue Extension Hancock County, 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield.

The $130 course includes lunch and snacks, and teaches participants how to help people in a mental health crisis; signs and symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance abuse and more; and awareness of the impact of mental health and substance abuse stigma can have.

Fire department to host breakfast fundraiser

FOUNTAINTOWN – Fountaintown Community Volunteer Fire Department will host a breakfast fundraiser this Saturday.

The event will be 7-11 a.m. Feb. 10 at the department, 141 E. Brookville Road, Fountaintown. A free-will offering will be accepted for bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and beverages. The department is raising money for new fire gear and equipment.

Great Neighbor Contest opens up

GREENFIELD – The Great Neighbor Contest is returning, in a collaborative effort to celebrate outstanding contributions of local residents.

Greenfield-Community announced the content this week. Greenfield-Community is a collaboration between the city of Greenfield, Greenfield-Central schools, Hancock Health and NineStar Connect to provide a concise place for “all things Greenfield.” Nominations for exceptional local neighbors will be accepted Feb. 4 through March 1 at greenfield-community.com. A winner will be announced March 4.

Great neighbors embody the spirit of everyday heroes, demonstrating a commitment to making a positive impact by supporting those in need, championing important causes and fostering meaningful connections within the community.

All nominees must be Greenfield residents and at least 18 years old. No purchase or fee is necessary to enter or win. Nominee submissions must come through the Greenfield-Community website official contest entry form. Submission story about the nominee must be true, and a nominee photo must be included. The nomine’s contact information must be included as well.

Prizes include free summer pool passes to weekly winners, with the overall winner receiving a local Greenfield prize pack.

Community development course this month

GREENFIELD – A community development course designed for elected officials, community leaders and engaged citizens is coming up at The Thrive Center in Greenfield.

Ball State University Indiana Communities Institute will host its Community Development CourseFeb. 27-29 at the center, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. The free course is in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Hancock County. Experts with decades of community development experience will lead participants through seven core sessions with exercises and conversations. Learn more or register at celebratehancock.org/events.

Daddy Daughter Dance returns April 6

GREENFIELD – “To the moon and back” is the theme of a Daddy Daughter Dance April 6 in Greenfield.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation is hosting the April 6 events, which are 3-5 p.m. for girls ages 3-6, and 6-8 p.m. for girls ages 7-12. The event will be at the Boys & Girls Club, 715 E. Lincoln St., Greenfield. Cost is $35 for residents, $37 for non-residents, $10 off a second ticket. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org. Polar Plunge coming up

GREENFIELD – The 2024 Polar Plunge is set for March 1, benefiting Special Olympics of Indiana and Eastern Hancock’s inclusive club.

Eastern Hancock SOAAR, or Something Outstanding About All Royals, is hosting the plunge at Eagle Creek. It is one of several Polar Plunges happening across the state, where friends and family sponsor individuals or groups to jump into the frigid waters of Indiana.
