HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man is facing a felony drug charge after county law enforcement say he was in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Joseph Redd-Campbell Jr., 37, 3600 block of North Layman Avenue has been charged with a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine and a Class B misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana from an incident January 29.
The case against Redd-Campbell was opened in Hancock County Circuit Court late last week. Judge Scott Sirk entered a not guilty plea and appointed a public defender before setting a $7,500 cash bond on February 1.
According to a probable cause affidavit, an official from the McCordsville Police Department noticed a Tahoe driving without a light on the vehicle’s license plate around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the 8100 block of North 600 West so the officer conducted a traffic stop.
The officer noted in the report when Redd-Campbell Jr. rolled down the window to talk with the officer the law enforcement official immediately smelled the odor of raw marijuana. The officer asked Redd-Campbell Jr. to exit his vehicle.
Once out, the officer ran some checks and found Redd-Campbell Jr. had a felony warrant out of Marion County for operating as a habitual traffic violator.
Officials did a search of the vehicle, they said in the report, and found a shoulder bag, inside of which they found a glass mason jar, a marijuana grinder and an unlabeled pill bottle. Inside the mason jar was a green leafy substance officials said was marijuana. Inside the pill bottle was a large quantity of multicolored, pressed, circular pills.
The affidavit noted that the pills field-tested positive for methamphetamine and the combined weight of the marijuana totaled 16.5 grams while the weight of the pills totaled 11.17 grams.
Redd-Campbell Jr. is scheduled to be back in court for a pretrial hearing Thursday, April 11.
