Vietnam memorial book, DVD presented to libraries

KNIGHTSTOWN – A book and DVD titled “A Time to Honor, Stories of Duty and Sacrifice” have been donated throughout Henry County by the Major Hugh Dinwiddie chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Knightstown, New Castle, Middletown, Spiceland and Carthage have received copies, as well school media centers in Knightstown, Tri, New Castle, Blue River Valley and Shenandoah.

The books and DVDs are part of the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Inc. project, which donates historic books about the Vietnam War to DARs across the country who inturn donate to local libraries. In Indiana, the book will be presented to more than 730 public libraries and high schools.

Cool Clovers plans for year of 4-H projects

GREENFIELD – The Cool Clovers 4-H Club recently discussed several 4-H projects, fair dates and an upcoming 4-H Camp

The club met Jan. 21. Officers this year are Tyler Deutsch, president; Devon Kelly and Jackson Cain, vice presidents; Victoria Deutsch, secretary/reporter; Loralye Deutsch, treasurer, Ainsley Martin, health/safety; and Ella Davis, recreation.

The club’s next meeting is at 4 p.m. Feb. 18 at Mohawk United Methodist Church.

Tri Kappa seeks scholarship applicants

GREENFIELD – Tri Kappa, a service sorority, is seeking Hancock County applicants for state scholarships of $1,000 each to be awarded for the 2024-25 school year. Past applicants and recipients may also submit an application.

Scholarships include: Academic Scholarship, for full-time college sophomore, junior or senior; Fine Arts Scholarship, for full-time college sophomore, junior or senior in an arts-related program; Twanette Nutter Fleming Music Scholarship, for full-time college sophomore, junior or senior studying music education; Vocational Scholarship, for a high school graduate enrolled in a vocational, technical or trade school or certification program; Key Scholarship, for a student with an interruption of education at least five years.

Rotary Club to host community open house

GREENFIELD – The Rotary Club of Greenfield will host a community open house in March with college basketball, food and fellowship.

The free event, scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. March 21, will be at the Thrive Center, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. The event, sponsored by Shepherd Insurance, is designed to bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate community spirit and foster connections. Attendees will be able to watch college basketball, enjoy food and drinks in a family-friendly environment. People can also learn about the Rotary Club of Greenfield’s various community initiatives and how to get involved. Wine tasting fundraiser Feb. 10

GREENFIELD – A local club is encouraging you to “pour your heart out” in an upcoming wine event.

The Tri Kappa Wine Tasting Event is 4-7 p.m. Feb. 10 at The Lodge at Nameless Creek Camp in Greenfield.

All proceeds go toward the club’s mission of assisting local agencies in charity, culture and education. The group supports the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Hancock Hope House, Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County, The Landing, Imagination Library and more.

The event will include hors d’oeuvres, a wine pull, entertainment by local saxophonist Jerry Bell. Cost is $50 for five wine tastings, or $25 for a designated driver ticket.

Psi Iota Xi to award scholarship

GREENFIELD – The Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi is accepting applications for its annual scholarship award.

The scholarship is $1,000, with $500 awarded upon receipt and a second $500 installment awarded upon successful completion of the fall semester with at least a 2.0 GPA. The deadline to apply is April 5.

Applicants may be graduating students of Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, or New Palestine high schools or current college students with a permanent residence in Hancock County. Applicants must also be pursuing or planning to pursue a four-year degree in the areas of art, literature, music, or speech and hearing. Selection criteria will be based upon strength of application, essay, and a personal interview with members of the Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi.

Superintendents to speak at February event

GREENFIELD – The State of Education in Hancock County will be the topic of discussion at an upcoming meeting of the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Guest speakers are the superintendents of all four public school corporations: Dr. Lisa Lantrip, Southern Hancock; Dr. Harold Olin, Greenfield-Central; Dr. Jack Parker, Mt. Vernon; and Dr. George Philhower, Eastern Hancock.

The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 6 at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. Cost is $15. Register by Feb. 1 at greenfieldcc.org.

Elks invites community to benefit euchre nights

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Elks will host weekly euchre tournaments to benefit the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen.

The events are open to the public every Monday at 5:30 p.m.; games start at 6 p.m. with a $6 buy-in. Payouts are for first- through third-place winners and most loans. The club is located at 820 S. State St., Greenfield.

Country market seeks vendors

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Extension Homemakers will host a “Spring Has Sprung” shopping event in April.

The Country Vintage Market is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 13 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield. The one-day event, which is a fundraiser for the homemakers, features local vendors, food trucks, free admission and parking.
