Prep roundup: Dragons, Marauders pick up road victories

New Palestine’s boys basketball team improved to 12-4 and 4-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 66-58 win on the road at Yorktown Friday.

Julius Gizzi had his 11th game of over 30 points to lead the Dragons with 31.

After being held to four points in the first quarter, he scored 12 in the second to help give the Dragons a 31-22 halftime lead. His 10-point third quarter helped seal the win.

Austin McMahan scored a career-high 14 points. Ben Slagley added nine, Keegan Harrison had seven and Moses Haynes had five.

Kieran Tewari scored 20 to lead the Tigers who dropped to 9-7 and 1-4 in the HHC.

Marauders rout Connersville for fourth win in last five games

Mt. Vernon’s boys basketball team defeated Connersville on the road Friday 61-32 to improve to 10-7 on the season.

The win was the Marauders fourth in their last five tries since back-to-back losses to open the month.

Three Marauders scored in double figures and eight different players found the basket.

Charlie Cross and Julien Smith each scored 14, while Tanner Teschendorf added 10.

Rounding out the scoring was Elijah Parra with seven, Brady Fitzgerald with six, Ryker Baer and R’mani Wells with four and Aden Daugherty with two.

The Spartans dropped to 4-13 on the season. They were led in scoring by Jaden Peterson’s nine points.

Gymnastics

Dragons are best of three

New Palestine’s gymnastics team defeated Roncalli and Kokomo in a meet Thursday at The Gymnastics Company.

The Dragons won with 98.6 points. Roncalli was second with 96.075 and Kokomo had 34.475.

New Palestine’s Lynzie Stiller and Olivia Frank had 1-2 finishes on both floor exercise and vault.

Stiller won with a floor routine score of 9.325. Frank had an 8.675. On vault, Stiller scored 8.95 and Frank had an 8.7.

Stiller added a second-place finish both on uneven bars (8.325) and in the all-around competition (33.175).

Reagan Seal had a runner-up finish on balance beam (8.225). She added fifth-place finishes on both floor (8.4) and vault (8.375)

Frank added a fourth in the all-around (32.6), fifth on bars (7.725) and sixth on beam (7.5).

Rebecca Johnson was fourth on vault (8.4).

New Palestine returns to action Tuesday at Noblesville.
