Daddy Daughter Dance returns April 6

GREENFIELD – “To the moon and back” is the theme of a Daddy Daughter Dance April 6 in Greenfield.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation is hosting the April 6 events, which are 3-5 p.m. for girls ages 3-6, and 6-8 p.m. for girls ages 7-12. The event will be at the Boys & Girls Club, 715 E. Lincoln St., Greenfield. Cost is $35 for residents, $37 for non-residents, $10 off a second ticket. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org. Prom dress giveaway coming up

GREENFIELD – Once Upon a Prom Dress will be Feb. 3 and Feb. 4.

The prom dress giveaway is open to any high school student, regardless of financial status. School ID or proof of enrollment is required. Each student is eligible to receive one free formal dress, accessory item and pair of shoes.

The event is 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 3 by appointment only, then noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 3 for open shopping. The event is also open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 4 for open shopping. The event is at Overlook at Briney Creek, 687 S. 400E., Greenfield.

Superintendents to speak at February event

GREENFIELD – The State of Education in Hancock County will be the topic of discussion at an upcoming meeting of the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Guest speakers are the superintendents of all four public school corporations: Dr. Lisa Lantrip, Southern Hancock; Dr. Harold Olin, Greenfield-Central; Dr. Jack Parker, Mt. Vernon; and Dr. George Philhower, Eastern Hancock.

The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 6 at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. Cost is $15. Register by Feb. 1 at greenfieldcc.org.

Parks department launches website

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Parks and Recreation this week launched a new website, parksingreenfield.com.

The site allows users to learn about parks and facilities, job opportunities, find and register for programs and events. At the bottom of the page is a registry for a newsletter, to receive emails regarding upcoming programs and events through the city’s parks department.

Prom committee to benefit from silent auction

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Eastern Hancock High School Prom Committee is hosting a silent auction fundraiser Jan. 27 during the third quarter of the varsity game.

The event is at 6 p.m. at the high school, 10370 E. 250N., Charlottesville.

Wellspring Center offers new round of classes

GREENFIELD – Several classes and groups are starting up soon through Wellspring Center, a resource for those in need of whole-health renewal.

The center is located at Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E. New Road, Greenfield.

Living Grace is a peer-led group that helps individuals care for those living with mental health difficulty or disorder; classes began Jan. 16 and meet every Tuesday.

Life’s Healing Choices, a group study on overcoming “hurts, habits or hang-ups,” started Jan. 23. There is a men’s group and a women’s group.

Groups starting Feb. 6 include Grief Share, a support group for those facing the death of a loved one; Divorce Care; Recovery and Renewal, a co-ed addiction recovery group; and Breaking the Chains of Trauma for women.

Breaking the Chains of Trauma for men starts March 26. Other groups offered at Wellspring include Parenting 911 for both parents and children; and Redefine Grace for ages 13 to 17.
