GREENFIELD Joyce Hyatt Strickland, 73, of Greenfield passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was born on March 19, 1950 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Richard L and Virginia (Davis) Hyatt, who preceded her in death.She married Thomas H Strickland on June 9, 1973, who survives. Joyce also is survived by a daughter, Emily Strickland-King of Greenfield and her daughter Marly and son Calvin and companion Jason Kinslow; a son, Adam H Strickland (Sara) his daughter Olivia, and sons Grant and Drew all of Greenfield; a sister, Janie Fink (Bob) of Greenfield and cousins in Greenfield, Noblesville and Pennsylvania.Joyce was a 1968 graduate of Greenfield High School and a 1972 graduate of DePauw University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and performed with the university’s marching band. Later, she received a Masters Degree in education from Indiana University.She had a long career as a teacher of elementary children in Indiana at Carthage, Charlottesville, Whitewater and Greenfield and in Petaluma, California. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority and Tri Kappa service sorority. Of all her interests, including birding, gardening, beach going and travel to historic cities in the South, by far the most important to her were her five grandchildren.A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A private burial will be in Park Cemetery.Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org/.
