Mildred May Grist (Millie) of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Greenfield, Indiana passed away peacefully to her heavenly home January 18, 2024 at Bloom at German Church, Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 101. She was born on January 24, 1922 to Dorothy Johanna Neller Huter and George Albert Huter, the second of 5 children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Simon Woodrow (Woody) Grist, her parents, and her brothers David (Nell) Huter, Robert (Marjorie) Huter, and Leonard Huter.

Mildred grew up on the east side of Indianapolis. She loved and often reminisced time spent with friends at Heath Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church where she accepted Christ as a teenager. Millie graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1940. After graduation, she supported the WWII effort in her free time by volunteering at the USO. She worked at State Life Insurance Company located in downtown Indianapolis for several years. When the war ended and her sweetheart returned from service, they wed on April 8, 1949. The married couple settled in Greenfield, where they raised two daughters. After their children were older, Mille worked many years in the cafeterias at Greenfield-Central School Corporation. She especially enjoyed being around the children at Lincoln Park Elementary where she cashiered. In her free time, Millie enjoyed sewing, egg decorating, collecting antiques and attending local auctions and estate sales. Millie was a long time member of the Bradley UM Church and she cherished the friendships that she made there.

Mildred will be lovingly remember by her sister, Charlotte (Richard, deceased) Brown, MN, formerly of Greenfield, sister-in-law, Shirley (Leonard, deceased) Raesner, Greenwood, IN, daughters Marilyn (David) Mardis, Janet (Daniel) Skinner, both of Greenfield, IN, grandchildren Jennifer Mardis, Allison Trinkle (Audie), Stephanie Wilson (Chase), and great granddaughters Aubrey (Peyton) Wilson, Hailee Rose, and Ava Wilson.
