GREENFIELD
97, lifelong resident of Greenfield, IN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 15, 2024. She was born February 8, 1926 to the late Grover and Elizabeth (Ostermeyer) Holzhausen. Eileen was a 1944 graduate of Mount Comfort High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana Central College, and married Donald Durant. Eileen was a teacher for Mt. Vernon Middle School for 39 years, retiring in 1991.
Eileen loved and served her Lord Jesus Christ and was a longtime active member of Heather Hills Baptist Church and Amity United Methodist Church. She was a member of Common Thread Quilters Guild and Biz-Z-B Home Economics Club. She loved quilting, gardening, and most importantly hosting family gatherings. Eileen was a social butterfly, never met a stranger and at the age of 97 still enjoyed cornhole, kickball and chair yoga.
Visitation will be Monday, January 22, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Heather Hills Baptist Church, 1421 N. German Church Road.
Eileen is survived by her children, Janice Hatoway (Wayne), Mary Crosby (Don), and David Durant (Tara); grandchildren, David Crosby (Kasey), Emily Graham (Gordon), Matthew Hatoway (Chelsie), and Michael Hatoway; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Donald Durant; and brothers, Mervin Holzhausen and Clyde “Cub” Holzhausen.
