With a 62-17 victory at home against Daleville Thursday, Eastern Hancock’s girls basketball team won the Mid-Eastern Conference championship for the second straight year.

Last year’s conference title was the team’s first since 1999 and first in the MEC.

The Royals, ranked No. 3 in the Class 2A Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll, are 19-1 overall and 7-0 in the conference with just one conference game remaining, at Randolph Southern Tuesday. All other teams in the conference have at least two losses.

Daleville dropped to 5-12 overall and 1-6 in the MEC.

Three Royals scored in double figures. Sammie Bolding led the way with 18 points. She also had five steals. Kenzie Koch had 14 and Brooklyn Willis scored 12, to go with six assists.

Makenzie O’Neal had 13 rebounds.

Girls swimming

G-C ends regular season with victory

Greenfield-Central’s girls swimming and diving team ended its regular season with a 148-29 victory at Shelbyville Thursday.

The Cougars swept the relay races. Caroline Felver, Sonja Jahrsdoerfer, Taylor Parsons and Josie Kinnaman won the 200-yard medley relay. Alyssa Osborn, Selah Vahle, CeCe Johnson and Rachel Stutz won the 200-yard freestyle relay. Stutz, Vahle, Johnson and Osborn were first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Osborn added wins in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke races. Johnson was first in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Stutz was the winner of the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke races. Parsons won the 200 IM. Kersey Hudson was first in the 1-meter diving competition and Katie Jennings led the way in the 500 freestyle.

Boys swimming

Cougars win finale at Shelbyville

Greenfield-Central’s boys swimming and diving team finished off the regular-season portion of the schedule with a 128-48 win at Shelbyville Thursday.

The team swept relay races, opening the event with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay from Evan Teskey, Aiden Michael, Jon Grimes and Colten Mayberry.

Mayberry, Teskey, Isaac Johnson and Mason Stoughton won the 200-yard freestyle relay. Cooper Schmitt, Tyler Mullen, Johnson and Michael won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Michael added individual victories in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Johnson won the 200 freestyle. Schmitt earned first place in the 500 freestyle. Grimes won the 100 backstroke and Mayberry led the way in the 100 breaststroke.

Gabe Hall won the 1-meter diving competition.

Boys wrestling

New Pal wins final dual

New Palestine’s boys wrestling team ended the regular season with a 39-24 dual meet victory over Greenwood at New Palestine High School Thursday. The team finished with a record of 17-4.

Winners for the Dragons were Ryder Gardner, Cole Vandygriff, Kelson Napier, Kole Hege, Gavin Wilcher, Colin Whetsel, Brandon Brees and Shaun Glass.

Next up for the Dragons will be the Shelbyville Sectional on Jan. 27.

Gymnastics

Dragons finish second

New Palestine’s gymnastics team was second of three teams in a home meet Thursday at The Gymnastics Company.

Columbus North won the event with 103.925 points. New Palestine totaled 95.175 points. Richmond scored 86.1.

Lynzie Stiller was second on floor exercise (8.7), third on vault (8.85) and uneven bars (7.65) and fourth in the all-around (32.4).

Olivia Frank earned a third on floor (8.525). She was fifth on bars (7.25), sixth on beam (7.95) and fifth in the all-around (31.95).

Reagan Seal picked up a fifth-place ribbon on floor (8.45), and sixth-place finishes on vault (8.3) and beam (7.95).

Chiara Polo was fifth on the vault (8.35).
