Dragon gymnasts have close loss in opener

New Palestine’s gymnastics team opened its season with a close loss at Connersville Tuesday.

The Dragons lost to the Spartans 99.8-99.25.

New Palestine’s Lynzie Stiller won the all-around with a total of 33.575.

Stiller was second on vault (8.5), third on floor (8.875), and fourth on both uneven bars (7.925) and balance beam (8.125).

Reagan Seal won on the balance beam with a score of 8.4 and was fourth in the all-around at 32.475. She added a fourth-place finish on floor (8.725).

Olivia Frank added a victory on the floor exercise with a total of 8.975. Frank was fifth on vault (8.475) and sixth on bars (7.525).

Rebecca Johnson picked up a third-place score (8.2) on beam and Chiara Polo placed sixth (8.45) on vault.

New Palestine is at Shelbyville Thursday.

Royals celebrating 50th anniversary

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1974 boys basketball sectional championship team at halftime of the varsity basketball game versus Shenandoah on Saturday January 20, 2024.

The boosters will recognize players, managers, cheerleaders, and coaches from the team. There also will be a reception in the high school cafeteria after the game for the community to greet the team. RSVP’s from team members to the booster email account ([email protected]) are appreciated to help with planning, but are not required.

Marauders sweep

Mt. Vernon’s boys and girls swimming and diving teams picked up two wins each, at home, Tuesday.

The boys defeated Heritage Christian 68-30 and Brebeuf 48-46.

The Marauders girls team downed Heritage Christian 66-35 and beat Brebeuf 53-48.

The boys return to action Saturday for the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet at New Palestine.

The girls are back in action, along with the boys, Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Whiteland.

Marauders lose on the road

Mt. Vernon’s girls basketball team lost 58-34 at Noblesville Tuesday.

The Marauders (6-12) play Saturday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. Hoosier Heritage Conference game against Shelbyville.
