DAR members get in holiday spirit

KNIGHTSTOWN – Local members of the Daughters of the American Revolution sent more than 900 Christmas cards with stockings to the Stockings for Soldiers campaign.

The national DAR initiative is designed to encourage service men and women serving overseas. Participating local chapters were the Major Hugh Dinwiddie (Knightstown), Brandywine Creek (Greenfield) and John Conner (Connersville).

The Major Hugh Dinwidddie Chapter gathered earlier this month at the Kopper Kettle restaurant in Morristown to celebrate the holiday. Members also attended a Dec. 16 event in Muncie celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

Local service projects this month included sponsoring two Christmas trees and donating cookies and serving refreshments at the Christmas at the Academy event in Knightstown. The chapter collected homemade hats, scarves, clothing, housewares and holiday treats for Homeless Veterans and Families of Indiana. The chapter also donated children’s books to the Knightstown Cheer Guild.

Upcoming projects and events are being planned through the winter months. The next chapter meeting will be at 1 p.m. March 2. Perspective members are welcome.
