NEW PALESTINE – Face painting, glitter tattoos, cookie decorating and more filled the room with Christmas cheer as dozens of children in the local court system celebrated the holiday.

Hancock County Friends of CASA hosted a CASA Kids Christmas Party Dec. 13 at the New Palestine Lions Club.

CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, has a mission to “change a child’s story” by promoting volunteer advocacy for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. The Christmas party was no exception, when nearly 100 guests enjoyed stocking decorating, a visit with Santa and the Grinch, a personal wrapped gift and more.

The Sugar Creek and Vernon Township fire departments delivered 146 care bags personalized for every child in the program and filled with age-specific hygiene and personal care items, toys, blankets, books and sports balls. Baby bags even contained teething toys and sippy cups.

The Vernon Township Trustee’s office formed a crew of 25 volunteers to put together the bags. Many individuals and businesses made monetary donations for the bags as well.

Friends of Hancock County CASA raises funds throughout the year for special programs, including the group’s biggest fundraiser at Daniel’s Vineyard. For more on CASA, visit casahancockcountyin.org or call 317-477-1304.
