SPICELAND
Nancy Houchins, 80, of Spiceland, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning at Hancock Regional Health. She was born August 11, 1943 in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Dale and Edna (Flannigan) Ellis.
A 1962 graduate of Lewisville High School, Nancy married Eddie Houchins the same year. Their union brought four children, and Nancy very much enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma; and she was the best! Well known for her cooking, especially her pumpkin pies, she fed her family well.
Caring, servants-heart, hard-worker, selfless, and graceful were a few words her family used to describe her. Her mantra was “family first”. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as for other friends for many years. She also drove a bus for South Henry School Corp. for a few years and worked at Hilltop Florist in Knightsown. She was a member of First Christian Church in Knightstown.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 61 years, Eddie Houchins of Spiceland; children, Cindy (Brett) Posey of Spiceland, Steve Houchins (Vickie McIntosh) of New Castle, Glenn (Ceci) Houchins of Knightstown, and Mark (Stephanie) Houchins of Spiceland; 13 grandchildren, Jesse (Lindsay) Posey, Megan (Joshua) Bramell, Shawna (Brett) Hicks, Tiffany (Andy) Byers, Jacob (Kiersten) Houchins, Kelsey (Caleb) Smith, Alex (Madison) Pence, Andrew (Emily) Pence, Adam Houchins, Aaron Houchins, and Aiden Houchins, Stella Houchins and Ava Houchins; 14 great grandchildren and one on-the-way; a brother, Jerry (Judy) Ellis of Spiceland; a sister, Cathy Trieschman; dear friends, Linda Haney and Shelley Haney; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Edna (Flannigan) Ellis; step mother, Oshie Ellis; two step brothers, Bruce and John Trieschman.
