NEW CASTLE — After being on the losing side of a pair of close games, New Palestine came out on top in its nail-biting Hoosier Heritage Conference opener Tuesday.
At New Castle, New Palestine’s girls basketball team defeated the host Trojans 42-40.
On Saturday, the Dragons lost 59-58 at Whiteland. They lost 51-48 at Rushville last Tuesday.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak.
Senior Allie Blum led Dragon scorers with 18 points. She hit 8 of 8 free throws, including 6 of 6 in the fourth quarter.
Vivian Miller scored eight points and Sadey Hughbanks added seven.
After the first quarter, New Palestine led 8-1, but the Trojans came back to tie it, 14-14, at halftime.
New Palestine (3-5, 1-0) plays host to Delta Saturday in another HHC contest. New Castle (1-7, 0-3) hosts Connersville next Tuesday.
