Club gives quilts to veterans

GREENFIELD – Members of the Common Threads Quilt Guild recently honored veterans by presenting them with hand-made quilts.

Veterans recognized at the November meeting were Don Hancock, Jack Driesbach, Melvin Tindall, Jerry Glisson, Richard Stanley, Bill Newkirk, John Squire and Jim Hudnall.

Common Threads has been a community club since 1988 and over time has drawn members from Hancock, Henry, Hamilton, Marion and Rush counties. Two clubs hosting benefit breakfast

FORTVILLE – A Breakfast with Santa event is coming up, supported by the Fortville Alpha Phi chapter of the Psi Iota Xi sorority and the Mt. Vernon Optimist Club.

The event is scheduled for 8-10:30 a.m. Dec. 2 at the Mt. Vernon High School cafeteria, door seven. The event includes breakfast, crafts, a Santa visit, live music and a free book giveaway to each child. Canned goods are accepted for a local food drive. Tickets are $10 per adult, children 8 and under are free; proceeds benefit Shop with a Public Servant. Learn more at mvoptimist.com.

Shrine Club to host party

GREENFIELD – The annual Christmas party and officer installation meeting of the Hancock County Shrine Club will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Fraternal Order of Police, 400 E. Davis Road, Greenfield. Social time begins at 6 p.m.

NARFE to host December meeting

GREENFIELD – The next local meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at Elks Lodge, 223 E. Third St., Rushville. For more information on the organization, contact chapter service officer/editor Richard T. Wagner, [email protected].

Book club seeks new members

GREENFIELD – The Cosmopolitan Club of Greenfield is seeking new members.

The women’s book club has long been affiliated with the Chautauqua Scientific and Literary Circle. The greenfield club, an early “daughter Chautauqua,” has been in continuous operation since October 1894.

The club reads primarily non-fiction books once a month, six months of the year. It meets at 1 p.m. on a designated Friday. To learn more about joining, email [email protected].
