A stretch of eight consecutive victories gave Greenfield-Central’s boys wrestling team control of the match in the annual Battle for the Box with Pendleton Heights.

The Cougars defeated the Arabians 54-23 at Pendleton Heights High School Wednesday.

The memorial toolbox has been up for grabs for three seasons. G-C won last year at Dellen Automotive Gymnasium.

The toolbox, with the initials K&H on the side, is in memory of longtime coaches from both programs, Greenfield-Central’s Ed Hamant, who passed away in 2021, and Pendleton Heights’ Eric Kriebel, who died in 2013.

On Wednesday, the Cougars got on a roll after an 11-5 win by decision in the 165-class match by sophomore Mason Thompson.

It started a string of eight straight victories. Pendleton Heights had taken a 6-0 lead by winning the opening match by fall at 157.

After Thompson won, Silas Frye (175) and Clay Guenin (190) won by fall. Tristen Lanum won a 3-2 decision at 215.

Brayden Flener (Hwt.) and Braeden Ayers (106) followed with two more pins. Garrett Sirosky (113) won by forfeit and Jett McGuire (120) earned the eighth straight victory, another win by fall.

JJ Harlow (132) and Kannon Zuber (150) also had wins for the Cougars.

Greenfield-Central is 6-0 in dual meets this season.

The programs also had a girls meet at PH Wednesday.

It finished in a 24-24 tie, with the Arabians winning the tiebreaker.

Winners for Greenfield-Central included Asia Bowen (105), Kylie Smith-Foster (115), Annie Johnson (125) and Ella Harpold (170).
