New Palestine’s boys and girls swimming and diving teams earned wins against visiting Indianapolis Cathedral Tuesday.
The boys team won 120-59. The girls won 97-79.
The boys team swept the three relay races, opening with a victory from Dawson Lynch, Aidan Kingery, Jake Myers and James Watson in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.37). Lynch, Kingery, Myers and Dontae Thompson won the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.68) and Watson, Reese Cox, Ashton Turner and Thompson closed out the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.6).
Five other Dragons earned individual wins. Myers won the 200 individual medley (2:17.86). Lynch took the top spot in the 100 butterfly (59.07 seconds). Thompson was victorious in the 100 freestyle (53.55) and Kingery touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.36). Aidan Stephens was the winner in the diving competition with 158.75 points.
The girls won 10 events. Adrianna Huston was a double individual winner, taking the top spot in the 200 freestyle (2:10.57) and 100 freestyle races (59.51). Lillie Abernathy won the 200 IM (2:35.35) and 100 breaststroke and Sullie Leavell added a pair of wins in the 50 freestyle (26.67) and 100 butterfly (1:08.87).
Lauren Appleby was the top diver with 142.45 points and Ireland Armstrong won the 500 freestyle (6:26.96).
The Dragons won a pair of relays, too.
Huston, Rachel Hamilton, Abernathy and Leavell won the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.63) and Leavell, Cadyn Brown, Abernathy and Huston won the 400 freestyle relay (4:11.49).
New Palestine travels to Greenfield-Central on Nov. 28.
Five Royals win at Centerville
Eastern Hancock’s boys and girls swimming teams competed in a tri-meet at Centerville Monday with Seton Catholic.
Both teams (no team scores available) beat Seton Catholic and lost to Centerville.
Event winners for the boys were Gus Upchurch (200-yard individual medley, 100 backstroke) and Kyle Messer (100 butterfly).
Sophie Dolence (100 butterfly) and Sarah Ebert (100 breaststroke) won for the girls.
Marauders split
In Tuesday’s season opening meet for the Mt. Vernon girls and boys swimming and diving teams, the Marauders split decisions at Richmond.
The girls won 115-65. The boys lost 100-76.
The team returns to action at Connersville Saturday.
Wrestling
Royals win 3 of 5 at Rossville
Eastern Hancock’s boys wrestling team opened its season Saturday winning three of five dual matches at the Rossville Hornet Invitational.
Bradyn Volz (113), Zane Badgley (126), Cameron Volz (132) and Hunter Survant (144) all went 5-0.
Eastern Hancock beat Northfield (49-27), Triton Central (53-23) and North White (58-21) and lost to Rossville (44-36) and Faith Christian (40-29).
On Tuesday, the Royals lost 45-34 to Alexandria.
Girls basketball
Eastern Hancock remains unbeaten
Eastern Hancock’s girls basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 52-10 victory at Shenandoah Tuesday.
The Royals led 26-2 at halftime.
Eastern Hancock was led in scoring by Makenzie O’Neal with 12 points. Ruby White scored nine points. Kenzie Koch, Sydney Springman and Ellie Meyer each had eight points.
The Royals return to action Saturday with another MEC game, at home, against Wapahani (4-0, 2-0) at 1:30 p.m.
Dragons fall to Lions
At Rushville Tuesday, New Palestine’s girls basketball team lost 51-48 to the host Lions.
The Dragons led at the end of the second and third quarters, but the Lions outscored them 19-9 in the final period.
Allie Blum led New Palestine with 25 points and six steals. Vivian Miller had nine points and six rebounds. Kendra Moore had seven rebounds and Sadey Hughbanks had seven rebounds.
New Palestine (2-4) travels to Whiteland (3-3) Saturday.
