New Palestine girls basketball player Allie Blum had a career-high 36 points, including four 3-pointers and 12 of 15 from the free-throw line, in Thursday’s 84-57 loss at Warren Central (2-3).
Blum’s 36 are tied for most by a New Palestine player in a regulation game, equaling the amount of Sarah (Haynes) Gizzi in 1993. The school record for most points in a game was achieved by Isabella Gizzi. She scored 40 points in an overtime contest at Southport in 2021.
On Wednesday, at home, New Palestine lost 59-44 to Franklin Central.
In the loss to Franklin Central (2-2), the Dragons welcomed the return of senior Vivian Miller, who had been out since an injury suffered during soccer season.
Miller was one of two double-figure scorers for the Dragons. She had 10 points. Blum had a team-high 12.
The Flashes were able to pull away from a close game by outscoring the Dragons 39-28 in the second half.
New Palestine (2-3) returns to action Tuesday at Rushville (2-1).
Royals continue to roll
Eastern Hancock improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 58-12 victory over visiting Cowan (0-6, 0-2) Thursday.
Nine different Royals players scored. Kenzie Koch led Eastern Hancock with 16 points. Brooklyn Willis scored 10.
Eastern Hancock will continue MEC action Tuesday at Shenandoah (1-2, 0-0).
Girls swimming
Dragons open with victories
New Palestine’s girls swimming and diving team won a pair of dual meets Thursday at the New Palestine Natatorium.
The Dragons defeated Roncalli 72-30 and Greenwood 53-48.
Individual event victories for the Dragons came from Lauren Appleby, Lillie Abernathy, Sullie Leavell and Chloe Siler.
The Dragons girls and boys teams will take on Cathedral Tuesday.
