Octagon House Christmas events coming up

SHIRLEY – The 24th Annual Christmas Tree Walk is coming up at the Octagon House, 400 S. Railroad St., Shirley.

Participants can tour the historic home and view around a dozen trees decorated by local clubs and businesses.

Events are 4-8 p.m. Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 8-9 featuring free tours of the house, and meals to purchase as a fundraiser for continued restoration of the historic home. The first weekend features a chicken and noodles dinner with dessert and drink for $12; the second weekend is a sandwich, soup, dessert and drink for $10.

“Letters to Santa” programs available

GREENFIELD – Opportunities are available for local children to send their wish lists to Santa.

Write a letter to Santa and drop it in the mailbox at McCordsville Town Hall or Depot Street Park in Greenfield; include a stamped envelope with a return address for a surprise.

Parents of children in second grade and younger can also send a letter via email to [email protected] to be included in the annual “Letters to Santa” special publication in the Daily Reporter.

Winterfest coming to Fortville

FORTVILLE – Fortville Winterfest is coming up noon-7 p.m. Dec. 2 along Main Street in downtown Fortville.

The festival features live music, carolers, a parade, tree lighting, ice skating, crafts, vendors, kids zone and visits with Santa.

Riley home in off-season hours

GREENFIELD – The James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum has switched to its off-season hours.

The home at 250 W. Main St., Greenfield is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Reservation for tours should be made a week in advance. Call 317-462-8539 or 317-477-4340.
