NOBLESVILLE
Barbara Jean Estridge, 82, fondly known as “Nana” passed away on November 9, 2023, at home with her family by her side. Barbara was born on April 10, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Wilbur and Frances Dawson.
She graduated from North Central High School in 1959 where she met the love of her life, Phil Estridge. They married on November 12, 1961, and enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage. In 1966, Phil completed the Indiana State Police Academy and was assigned to work in Henry County. They chose to relocate to Knightstown and that became their home for the next 52 years.
In 1960, Barbara was employed with Indiana National Bank of Indianapolis where she was nominated and reigned as an Indianapolis 500 Princess. Barbara worked in administrative positions in the Banking Industry, Real Estate and Insurance businesses, Charles A. Beard School Corporation, and in 1980 she began working in the Legal field with Avery &Peyton Law Firm later becoming Peyton &Dunsmore Law Firm and Henry County Superior Court (1997-2011) for the Honorable Michael D. Peyton. Upon retiring from HCSC, she worked part-time for Sadler Law in New Castle. Barbara was promoted to the position of “Nana” in October 2003 and enjoyed her remaining years in this role. She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and their many activities. She was an avid gardener at her home of 50 years on the Greensboro Pike in Knightstown enjoying everything outdoors. Barbara was a member of the Knightstown Alpha Zeta Chapter of Tri Kappa sorority volunteering in several charitable and educational projects for 21 years. While her children were students at Knightstown High School and involved in numerous activities, you most often saw her volunteering in the concession stands or sitting in the stands proudly cheering them on in their sports.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Phil Estridge; children, Jeff (Melitta) Estridge of Greenfield, Tim (Kim) Estridge of Greenfield, Cyndi (Michael) Petroff of Fishers and Julie (Bob) Barker of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Paige (Ray) Otter, Jacob (Savanah) Estridge, John Estridge, Zachary Petroff, Alexandra Barker, Joshua Estridge and Mackenzie Petroff; siblings, Janet Smith, Evelyn Huntington and David Dawson.
