GREENFIELD – Greenfield’s downtown art gallery is transforming into a space of memories and Christmas cheer.

The Twenty North Gallery’s newest exhibit “Gone but Not Forgotten” features art of days gone by, and coming soon is the traditional Festival of Trees.

“You just need to realize how simple life used to be,” said Alice Hedden, president of Hancock County Arts, shortly after hanging paintings on the wall of local artists.

One, for example, features the artists’ mother hanging laundry on a line. Another depicts Riley Park’s historic wellhouse in its prime.

Hedden herself has a piece in the exhibit: a group of children laughing at their dad blowing up a balloon.

Hedden said the exhibit will combine with festive decor in the coming weeks to make for a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of today’s life.

Roughly 12 businesses and nonprofits will decorate trees in the exhibit, and people can come to view them and vote for their favorite. Nonprofits will have the opportunity to share ways people can donate to their charity through the Festival of Tree as well.

An artisan market will be featured in the center of the gallery, giving people a way to pick up a unique gift for a friend or family member.

But don’t be a last-minute shopper: to view the Festival of Trees and shop at the market, come between Black Friday and Dec. 16. The gallery, run mostly by local volunteers, will be closed for a few weeks for the holidays.
