Prep roundup: Dragons win second straight, defeat Greenwood

New Palestine’s girls basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 54-38 victory at Greenwood Wednesday.

The Dragons, trailing by five points, outscored Greenwood 18-7 in the second quarter to take a six-point lead, 30-24.

After three quarters, New Palestine upped its lead to double figures, 45-30.

Allie Blum scored 23 points, including 12 of 16 at the free-throw line. Sadey Hughbanks scored 1o.

Kenna Tweedy and Kylee Beranek had seven points and six points, respectively, all in the second quarter.

Charlee Mayo led Greenwood with 11.

New Palestine (2-1) hosts Franklin Central (0-1) next Wednesday. Greenwood (0-3) is at Seymour (2-0) Saturday.

Girls wrestling

G-C wrestlers win matches

Greenfield-Central’s girls wrestling team won five of its six matches wrestled, including exhibitions, but lost to visiting Perry Meridian Wednesday, 54-24.

All of Perry Meridian’s varsity match points came by forfeit.

For the Cougars, Asia Bowen (105), Kylie Smith-Foster (110), Jasmine Camacho (155), Ella Harpold (170) and Keely Allen (235) all won.

The team is expected to have 10 wrestlers available for their next competition, this weekend at the Purdue Poly Invitational.
