Richard Lee Elsbury, age 86, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born in Anderson on May 24, 1937, to Floyd Elsbury and Mary (Pope) Elsbury. He graduated from Eden High School in 1955 and served in the United States Army Reserves. On December 21, 1963, Rich married Judith (Kleiman) at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine, Indiana.

Before retiring in 1993, he worked for Guide Lamp in Anderson as a tool and die maker. Rich also spent much time working on the family farm, REF Shorthorns, where he enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was a past worshipful Master at Eden Masonic Lodge #477 and a Greenfield-Central Schools Board Member. Rich was a member of the American Shorthorn Association and Eden United Methodist Church and was passionate about 4-H. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Rich is survived by his loving family including his wife of 59 years, Judy Elsbury of Greenfield; sons, Tim (Debbie Schneider) Elsbury of Adell, WI, David (Colleen “Babber”) Elsbury of Greenfield and Gary Lee (Molly) Elsbury of Greenfield; grandchildren, Alex Carnegis, Colby (Brittany) Carnegis, Kristin Carnegis and Luke Carnegis, Sierra Elsbury (Tyler Inghram), Savanna Elsbury, Michael (Amanda) Elsbury, Jacob Lee (Kristin) Elsbury, Logan (Maggie) Elsbury, Kaylee Elsbury, Ethan Lee Elsbury and Abby Elsbury; great-granddaughter, Willadean Elsbury; and siblings, Hugh (Shirley) Elsbury, Norman (Anne) Elsbury and Joyce Schrieber all of Greenfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary; his daughter, Lisa (Elsbury) Carnegis; and brother-in-law, Charlie Schrieber.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140 with a Masonic Service from 4:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the mortuary on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor David Crittenden will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
