Pie auction to raise money for EH
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Crafters, quilters, knitters, bakers and Eastern Hancock supporters are sought to help with an upcoming Eastern Hancock Education Foundation Auction.
The annual EHEF Pie Auction is coming up Dec. 15 during the home varsity basketball game. The foundation is taking donations of baked goods, homemade pies, candy, craft/homemade items, theme baskets and gift certificates. Donations may be dropped off in room 706 of Eastern Hancock Middle School by Dec. 14. Lawmakers seek college interns
INDIANAPOLIS – Local lawmakers are seeking interns to join them at the Statehouse during the 2024 legislative session.
The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus is offering paid spring-semester internships in its communications, information technology, legal, legislative, page and policy offices during the 2024 session of the Indiana General Assembly, said State Sen. Michael Crider, R-Greenfield.
Qualified candidates may be of any major and must be at least a college sophomore. Recent college graduates, as well as graduate and law school students, are also encouraged to apply. Positions are open to Indiana residents, as well as nonresidents who attend a college or university in Indiana.
Indiana House Republicans are also offering similar spring paid internships, which includes free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student’s college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

College savings program giving scholarships
GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Promise program will give away eight $250 scholarships to eight different Hancock County students.
Hancock County Promise gives free money to students in grades k-6; money is deposited into CollegeChoice 529 accounts; parents of kindergarteners who sign up for the program automatically get a $25 donation if they open a 529 account, and this year is a catch-up opportunity for children in grades k-6 to sign up. In addition, those who sign up may be eligible for the $250 scholarship.

Financial aid meetings coming in new year
HANCOCK COUNTY – Support for graduating high school students and adult learners will be available in upcoming workshops about financial aid for higher education.
FAFSA Days will be in January at local high schools and in March at the Hancock County Public Library.
The Community Foundation of Hancock County announced the events along with INvestED and Hancock County LINK. A FAFSA event is scheduled for 2:30-6:30 0p.m. Jan. 9 at Greenfield-Central High School; 2:30-7 p.m. Jan. 17 at Mt. Vernon High School; 4-7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Eastern Hancock High School; and 2:30-7 p.m. Jan. 30 at New Palestine High School. There will also be an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2 at the main branch of the HCPL in Greenfield.
