Community Connections event coming up

GREENFIELD – Purdue Extension Hancock County will host its annual Community Connections event 4-7 pm. Nov. 11.

The event will feature a chicken noodle dinner benefiting the organization’s programming (cash or check only) with adult meals $15 and youth meals for those under age 8 at $8. Homemade ice cream is available for $4.

The event is designed to help the community learn more about 4-H, agriculture and natural resources and health and human sciences programming. A silent auction will be from 4-6:30 p.m., and there will also be free children’s activities and door prizes. The event is at the Sarah Burke Building of the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield.

Brick campaign starts for new shelter house

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Parks and Recreation has launched a Give Me Shelter Brick Campaign to coincide with construction of a new shelter house at Riley Park.

People may purchase an engraved brick for $50 to celebrate family friends and organizations. They will be placed on the walkway leading up to the building, which needs to be re-built after a fire destroyed the previous event space at Riley Park. Sorority to sell pickles, cheeseballs

GREENFIELD – The Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi recently announced a new fundraiser – pickles – to run alongside its most well-known project, cheeseballs. Money raised supports speech and hearing, art, literature and music efforts in Hancock County.

The chapter will sell Sechler’s Pickles, a company based in St. Joe, Ind. Sechler’s Pickles sources cucumbers from the Midwest, and all packing and processing happens in Indiana. The chapter is offering a variety of single-jar and bulk products, as well as gift baskets. Cheeseballs are the organization’s largest fundraiser. The chapter will be following health protocols and always prepares cheeseballs in a commercial kitchen with supervision of a food service professional. Cheeseballs will be ready for pick-up or delivery in mid-November.

Cheeseballs are available for order. They are $8 each and come in savory and chocolate chip dessert flavors. Savory cheeseballs can be ordered rolled in nuts or without nuts. To order, text (preferred) or call Ottinger at 317-318-8313.

The Upsilon chapter will also have a booth at the Greenfield-Central High School Holiday Bazaar Dec. 2, to sell both cheeseballs and pickles. No advance order is necessary at the bazaar; items will be sold first-come, first-served while supplies last.

Psi Iota Xi, founded in 1897 in Muncie, is a women’s philanthropic organization with chapters throughout the midwestern United States. Psi Iota Xi chapters are focused on raising money and offering volunteer service to improve the quality of life in their communities.
