Car wash fundraiser for EH Europe trip

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock students are raising money for a spring break trip to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2024.

Video game-themed lunches coming to G-C

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central students will return from fall break Oct. 23 with video game-themed lunches.

National School Lunch Week is Oct. 23-27 and the school corporation is “leveling up” lunch with lunches based on video games, such as Fortnite, Sonic Mania, Minecraft and Pokemon Go. The Super Mario lunch, for example, will include Super Mario Spaghetti and Meatballs, Yoshi Broccoli Bites, and Princess Peach Slices. The special menu will be featured at all G-C schools.

4-H Open House Nov. 2

GREENFIELD – Learn about Hancock County’s 4-H program in an upcoming community event.

The 4-H Open House is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds, Sarah Burke 4-H Exhibit Hall, 620 Apple St., Greenfield. Learn about projects, clubs, Mini 4-H and leadership opportunities. Youth in kindergarten through 12th grade will receive a prize for enrolling in 4-H at the event.

Local students named to angus association

GREENFIELD – Two Hancock County students were recently named junior members of the American Angus Association.

Ryan Warren Rodgers of Greenfield and Marlayna Francis of Greenfield were named members this month.

Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle for the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association, and take part in associated-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

The American Angus Association is the largest beef breed association in the world with nearly 22,000 active adult and junior members. Visit NJAA.info for more.

Pie auction to raise money for EH

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Crafters, quilters, knitters, bakers and Eastern Hancock supporters are sought to help with an upcoming Eastern Hancock Education Foundation Auction.

The annual EHEF Pie Auction is coming up Dec. 15 during the home varsity basketball game. The foundation is taking donations of baked goods, homemade pies, candy, craft/homemade items, theme baskets and gift certificates. Donations may be dropped off in room 706 of Eastern Hancock Middle School by Dec. 14. Lawmakers seek college interns

INDIANAPOLIS – Local lawmakers are seeking interns to join them at the Statehouse during the 2024 legislative session.

The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus is offering paid spring-semester internships in its communications, information technology, legal, legislative, page and policy offices during the 2024 session of the Indiana General Assembly, said State Sen. Michael Crider, R-Greenfield.

Qualified candidates may be of any major and must be at least a college sophomore. Recent college graduates, as well as graduate and law school students, are also encouraged to apply. Positions are open to Indiana residents, as well as nonresidents who attend a college or university in Indiana.

Indiana House Republicans are also offering similar spring paid internships, which includes free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student’s college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

School foundation offers honor program

GREENFIELD – People can honor “stars” at Greenfield-Central schools through the STAR Power program.

The Greenfield Central School Foundation offers the program to recognize teachers, principals, coaches, librarians, bus drivers or cafeteria workers. People in the community who want to honor a star may do so with a minimum gift of $10. The honoree will receive a personalized card listing the donor’s name and any special sentiment the donor wishes to include. All proceeds provide additional resources for G-C teachers, classrooms and students.
