Family Halloween parties coming up

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several family-friendly Halloween events are coming up over the next two weeks in Hancock County.

Cumberland Trail & Treat is 3-5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Lions Park along the Buck Creek Trail Loop. Admission is free for trick-or-treaters and four-legged friends to wander along the Buck Creek Trail adorned with decorations and treat spots hosted by local businesses and organizations.

Greenfield Faith Church will host its Fall Festival from 3-7 p.m. Oct. 14 featuring free food, games and the movie “Because of Winn Dixie.” The church is located at 328 S. Swope St., Greenfield.

The New Palestine Marching Dragons presents its annual Halloween event at 7 p.m. Oct. 19, featuring candy, costumes, games, music, food trucks and a community performance of the band at the New Palestine High School south parking lot.

Shirley’s Pumpkins and Peddlers town festival includes food, entertainment and vendors from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 20 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21. Visit townofshirley.com or facebook.com/shirleyindiana for updates.

Harvest Fest in New Palestine will feature country line dancing, trunk or treat, food trucks, pumpkin patch, chili tasting, kids games and more, from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 21 at 11 E. Main St., New Palestine.

Storywalk features new book

MCCORDSVILLE – A new book is featured at the Old School Park Storywalk.

“Pete the Cat Checks Out the Library” can be read along a walking path at the McCordsville park at the corner of 750 North and Mt. Comfort Road. Each page of the book is on a display sign for families to read together while enjoying the outdoors.

Nighttime animal program coming to camp

GREENFIELD – Learn about nocturnal animals in an upcoming event at Nameless Creek Camp.

Creatures of the Night is set for 7-9 p.m. Oct. 28 at the camp, 2675 S. 600 E., Greenfield. Tickets are $15 for one, $25 for two, $35 for three or $50 for four or more registrants. Local libraries offer programs for children

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several events for children and teens are coming up in the month of October at local libraries.

Children in grades 1-5 can make haunted house crafts at the Greenfield branch of the Hancock County Public Library 11. A pajama party with nighttime stories will be in New Palestine Oct. 11. There are also teen book clubs and writing clubs available.

Kasey the Fire Dog will be in both New Palestine and Greenfield Oct. 12 for all ages. Register for HCPL programs at hcpligrary.org.

At the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville, Bentley’s Buddies dogs will be available to read to Oct. 21. There is a Play & Learn Storytime for all ages each Wednesday morning, as well as a Homeschool STEAM Club Oct. 27 and Bookworms Middle Grade Book Club Oct. 23. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for more.
