SHELBYVILLE — Mt. Vernon scored the game’s first 25 points and grabbed back-to-back victories for the first time this season with a 28-14 win at Shelbyville Friday.

Coming off a victory against New Castle last week, Mt. Vernon led 25-0 at halftime.

Mason Meyers scored on a 20-yard scramble and also connected with Tre Jones for an 80-yard touchdown play.

Kicker Rylan Vinard had a big night with three field goals, including a 43-yarder for the MV’s opening points.

Running back Joliba Brogan scored on a nine-yard run late in the first half and Vinard added the PAT to give the Marauders a 25-point lead.

Vinard’s third field goal came in the game’s final two minutes.

It was the Marauders eighth straight win against the Golden Bears.

Mt. Vernon improved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. Shelbyville dropped to 3-5 and 1-5.

Mt. Vernon finishes the regular season at home next Friday against Yorktown.
