Richard Kenneth Pies III, age 51, of New Palestine, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at his home. He was born in Seattle, Washington on April 6, 1972 to Susan (Anderson) Pies and Richard Kenneth Pies II. He graduated from Skykomish High School in 1991. Richard married Brandie (Boyers) on September 25, 1999 in Jackson, Michigan.

For over 4 years, Richard served in the United States Marine Corps. After the Marines, he began serving in the Indiana National Guard and was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received the National Defense Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the military in 2015. In addition to the National Guard, he worked as a diesel mechanic at Penske Truck Leasing in Indianapolis. Richard enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with his Jeep, playing with Legos, visiting breweries, and brewing his own beer. He loved spending time outdoors, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, camping, fishing, and going to the shooting range. Richard was a member of Community Christian Church of New Palestine. He loved to spend time with his family and their two basset hounds, Baxter and Primrose.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Brandie Pies of New Palestine; daughter, Rebekah Pies (Joe Edwards) of New Palestine; siblings, Daniel (Michelle) Pies of Washington, Josh (Bridgett) Pies of Washington, Kelly (Brian) McNeeley of Tennessee, Jennifer (Mike) Teribury of Oregon and Jordan (Tiffany) Pies of Washington; and mother-in-law, Carol Boyers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Susan and Richard Kenneth Pies II; grandfather, Richard Kenneth Pies; and father-in-law, David Edward Boyers.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A graveside service with full military honors will be held, Monday, October 9, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Crown Hill National Cemetery. Pastor Todd Beal will be officiating.
