Pumpkin decorating events coming to libraries

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries are hosting pumpkin decorating events throughout October.

At the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville, “Literary Painted Pumpkins” is Oct. 3 with character options like Pete the Cat, Scooby Doo or Harry Potter to paint; all materials and the pumpkin will be provided by the VTPL, 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for more.

The Hancock County Public Library will be hosting two all-ages Pumpkin Decorating events.

The first will be at the Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 10. The second event will be at the Main Library in Greenfield from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 16.

Kids, families, tweens, and teens are welcome to come to either event and decorate a pumpkin to take home. All supplies will be provided, including: the pumpkin, paint, glitter glue, stickers, markers, paint markers and more. No carving on site; participants are invited to just let their creativity flow.

Attendees should register ahead of time as supplies will be limited. Register each person who will be decorating a pumpkin, including adults. Participants should dress for a mess.

New Cumberland Halloween event slated

CUMBERLAND – A new event hosted by the Cumberland Police Department will replace the community’s Monster Dash this year. Cumberland Trail & Treat is set for 3-5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Lions Park along the Buck Creek Trail Loop.

Admission is free for trick-or-treaters and four-legged friends to wander along the Buck Creek Trail adorned with decorations and treat spots hosted by local businesses and organizations. The best-decorated spot will be recognized; to learn more or apply to be a vendor, apply by Oct. 6 at town.cumberland.in.us/community/trail___treat.

Vendors sought for local Halloween events

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local communities are seeking participants for Trunk or Treat events in October.

The town of McCordsville is seeking participants for its event, which is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Outlook Church, 6531 N. 600W., McCordsville. Participants should decorate their vehicle or trunk space for a chance to win prizes. Candy must be individually wrapped and sealed, and ready to hand out by 4 p.m. To register, email [email protected].

Greenfield Parks and Recreation is also seeking vendors for its annual Trunk or Treat event.

The event will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. There is no fee to participate; businesses and organizations are invited to join and be prepared with candy for 1,500 to 2,000 community members. For an application or questions, email [email protected] or call 317-477-4340.

New Palestine Main Street is seeking scarecrows to decorate the town. The Scarecrow Stroll will be featured at Harvest Fest Oct. 21. Scarecrows are needed by Oct. 6; businesses, organizations, scout troops and more are invited to be creative and promote their group through a scarecrow. MV foundation to host fundraiser

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation will host a Bourbon, Bags and Bingo event Oct. 5. The event is 5-9 p.m. at Adaggio’s, 599 W. Memory Lane, Greenfield.
