FORTVILLE
Vera L. Martin, 94, of Fortville, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Rawlins House in Pendleton. She was born August 4, 1929, in Fortville to Emett and Ada Marie (Kinnaman) Chappell. Vera graduated from the old Fortville High School in 1947 and retired as a bookkeeper from Greenfield Banking Company in 1995 after 25 years’ service. Vera was a member of the Fortville Christian Church, the Gravel Lawn Cemetery Board of Directors, Fortville Brotherhood and Sisterhood, an associate member of Job’s Daughters Bethel #41 and an associate member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority.
Vera is survived by grandchildren: Jodi (Eddie) Alexander; Wade (Jen) Pratt, Kari (Mike) Hale; Ronnie (Missy) Martin, Kyle and Eric; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Tyler, Austin, Christina, Terrilynn, Kolton, Jaden, Sierra, Adrienne, Alec and Joseph and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert “Gib” Martin, son Terry Martin, daughter Janice Foster and sister Ruthelma Flannagan.
A funeral to celebrate Vera’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fortville Christian Church 9450 N. 200 West Fortville, IN 46040 or the Mt. Vernon Alumni Association.
