Lord’s Acre Festival continues today

McCORDSVILLE — The 71st annual Lord’s Acre Festival kicked off Friday and continues from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 16) at McCordsville United Methodist Church, 6247 W. Broadway, McCordsville.

The festival food tent features fish sandwiches, fish tacos, hush puppies, chicken sandwiches, tenderloin, hotdogs, sloppy joes, coneys and sides; water, lemonade, tea and soft drinks; funnel cakes, ice cream cups, and homemade pies and cakes.

Chicken and noodles will be served starting at 11 a.m. for as long as supplies last.

SEPT. 16

11 a.m.: silent auction starts; end times are staggered

noon-1 p.m.: Larry Huston on the Music Stage

1:15-2:15 p.m.: Matt McClintick on the Music Stage

2-4 p.m.: face painter, balloon twister, bounce house

4-5 p.m.: Silly Safaris animal show on the Music Stage

5-6 p.m.: Touch a Truck with Vernon Township Fire Department, McCordsville Police Department and more

5-7 p.m.: face painter, balloon twister, bounce house

5:30-7 p.m.: Church Praise Band on the Music Stage

Benefit car show, fish fry coming Sept. 23

GREENFIELD — Mt. Comfort Church will play host to its seventh annual car show and fish fry Sept. 23.

The events raise money for Lighthouse Student Ministries, for the church’s youth group, to attend a mission trip next summer.

The car show is from noon to 3 p.m. with registration at $20 per car; non-judged registration is $5 per car.

The fish fry is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with $12 per meal pre-order by Sept. 21. Meal includes hand-battered cod, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, dessert and drink. Day-of-event price is $14.

Mission Celebration is Sunday

GREENFIELD — Mission Celebration is an annual event at Trinity Park Church to highlight mission work happening locally and globally. Anyone interested in hearing the speakers is welcome to attend.

Services are at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sept. 17, with keynote speaker Hubert Nolen, co-founding executive director of Hope Center Indy, designed for victims of human trafficking to find a place to heal.

Before that he was pastor of Brookville Road Community Church in New Palestine. During his years there, the church provided millions to world missions and starting churches. He was instrumental in establishing more than 70 churches globally, including in India and Brazil. He recently released a book, “Hope for a Lifetime.”

At 10 a.m., Andrea Linn will speak to the church’s Faith Groups. She ministers in Spain, to refugees and immigrants from North Africa, through World Gospel Mission in Marion. She will also work with the children in Room 10 during both services.

Services will also include music by a praise team from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Free dinner is Thursday

CUMBERLAND — St. John United Church of Christ will serve a free community meal from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday. The church is located at 11910 E. Prospect St. Everyone is welcome.

Greenfield Christian plans Riley Festival boutique

GREENFIELD — Riley Festival preparations are underway for the annual Bake Sale and Boutique at Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Oct. 6-7 at 23 N. East St.

The Boutique will offer a wide variety of home goods, gifts, furniture, appliances, jewelry and many other unique items. Homemade pies, cakes, cookies, snacks, and treats will be available at the bake sale.

New this year will be a coffee and snack bar so visitors may enjoy a piece of pie, cake, or cookie with some coffee as they relax and browse the Boutique and Bake Sale.

Winter coat giveaway today

GREENFIELD — A free winter coat giveaway will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 16).

“Coats of Many Colors” will include winter gear for all sizes, from infant to adult. The event, sponsored by Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Greenfield, will be at Steak ‘n’ Shake, 2121 N. State St., Greenfield. For more, call Pastor Joseph Riggs at 317-496-6845.

Chicken sandwich drive-thru open

MT. COMFORT — Chick-fil-A lunches are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays (or while supplies last) at Mt. Comfort Church’s Mt. Comfort Campus, 3179 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield.

Each lunch costs $10 and includes a Chick-fil-A sandwich, bag of chips, cookie and a drink.

All proceeds go to help support Our Lady of the Apostles Family Retreat Center (2884 N. County Road 700W, Greenfield) and Mt. Comfort Church.
