Mt. Vernon’s boys tennis team defeated host Hoosier Heritage Conference opponent New Castle 5-0 Thursday.
Adam Koon won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Manny Downs grabbed the victory at No. 2 6-1, 6-2. Tate Cougill made it a clean sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.
Robbie Moore and Matthew Jones won at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-2. Bryndan Wylie and Max Orelup were victorious at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-2.
Mt. Vernon is 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the HHC.
The Marauders travel to the Homestead Invitational Saturday.
Cougars defeat Alexandria
Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team improved to 13-2 overall with a 5-0 victory over Alexandria Thursday.
The Cougars take on No. 20 Whiteland, at home, Monday.
Volleyball
Marauders drop 4-setter at New Castle
Mt. Vernon’s girls volleyball team dropped to 11-8 overall and 3-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference after a 3-1 loss at New Castle Thursday.
The Marauders lost by set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15.
Easton Wampler had 13 kills. Kate Ferguson had nine and Sophia Damer recorded seven kills with four blocks.
Ava Whitmore had 32 assists, 12 digs and two service aces. Aubry Dowling at 14 digs.
New Castle is 13-5 overall and 3-1 in the HHC. Mt. Vernon travels to Westfield Monday.
Cougars win 3-0 against Shelbyville
Greenfield-Central’s volleyball team defeated Shelbyville 3-0 in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match at G-C Thursday.
The Cougars won by set scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-17 to improve their record to 14-3 overall and 3-2 in the HHC.
Greenfield-Central hosts Lawrence Central Monday.
