Coat, hat giveaway coming up

GREENFIELD – Free winter coats, hats and gloves will be given away at an upcoming event.

Coats of Many Colors is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16. It is hosted by Apolostic Pentecostal Church and will be at Steak ‘N Shake, 2121 N. State St., Greenfield. Winter clothing is available in all sizes, from infant to adult.

FFA hog roast coming up

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Eastern Hancock FFA will host its hog roast fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 15 at a football game.

The event will be in the grassy area between the ticket booth and tennis courts at Eastern Hancock High School, 10320 250N., Charlottesville.

Libraries offer children’s, teens’ programs

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries are offering up several events for children and teens this month.

In Greenfield’s Hancock County Public Library, teens can enjoy a take-apart technology program Sept. 18. Children’s programs at the main branch include “The Ancient World” Sept. 14; “National Talk Like a Pirate Day” Sept. 19; and a “Lego Free Build” event Sept. 26. The library is located at 900 W. New Palestine’s Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL offers book clubs and writing clubs throughout the month; a “Dot Day Party” for grades 1-5 Sept. 14; “Pals and PJs” for children ages 3-7 Sept. 19; and scarecrow crafts for school-aged children Sept. 28. Storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers are offered at multiple locations in the month of September, though the Greenfield and New Palestine libraries already are booked up or have a wait list in place. The Vernon Township Public Library, however, offers a “Play and Learn Storytime” each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville.

The VTPL also offers a chance for children to read with a therapy dog. Bentley’s Buddies will be on site from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sept. 16.

The Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL in New Palestine will have Bentley’s Buddies dogs from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sept. 24.
