Mt. Vernon’s Charlie Cole scored two goals in the Marauders win over Shelbyville Tuesday.

Mt. Vernon picked up a Hoosier Heritage Conference boys soccer win with a 3-1 victory, at home, over Shelbyville Tuesday.

Charlie Cole scored twice, with the first goal breaking a 1-1 tie.

Xander Sokol got the first Mt. Vernon goal on an assist from Nick Heitman. Cole’s initial goal was a header following a free kick from Nathan Bennett with just five minutes remaining in the match.

His second goal came just 90 seconds later.

Dragons get road win

Elliott Canova scored twice to lead New Palestine’s boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Greenwood Tuesday.

New Palestine improved to 6-5 with the win and will play at Greenfield-Central Thursday.

Girls golf

New Pal has season-best round

New Palestine shot its best nine-hole round of the season, giving the girls golf team a 155-172 victory over Mt. Vernon Tuesday.

Katie Kelley led the way with a 37. Lily Kirchner had a personal-best 38. They were followed by Lauren Deering and Kate Stanfield each with 40s. Lauren Appleby shot 42 and Hanna Beller carded a 43. The Dragons finish the season 13-2.

Volleyball

Dragons down Delta

New Palestine’s volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over Delta Tuesday.

The Dragons won by set scores of 28-26, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Rachel Burke led the attack with 17 kills. Bella Brownfield had a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs.

Natalie Sevier contributed six kills. Setter Sam Gooding had 40 assists.

In the back row, Azure Flagle had 20 digs and Makaeli Johnson had 11.

New Palestine came back after trailing 14-7 in the fourth set.
