New Palestine’s volleyball team won 3-0 at Lutheran Wednesday to improve its overall record to 10-2.
The Dragons won by set scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-14.
Bella Brownfield had a big night with 17 kills, 14 digs and two blocks.
Rachel Burke and Hayden Ramsey had nine kills each. Nyla Lewis had eight and Josie Corbert contributed six.
Ramsey had a pair of blocks and Burke had one. Burke also had four digs.
Setter Sam Gooding had 45 assists, eight digs and a block.
Defensive specialist Azure Flagle led in digs with 15. Makaeli Johnson and Kyndra Monteith had 13 digs each.
The Dragons travel to the Greenwood Invitational Saturday.
Eastern drops MEC match
Eastern Hancock won the first set of Wednesday’s competitive Mid-Eastern Conference match at Wapahani, but the Raiders got the next three to defeat the Royals 3-1.
Eastern lost by set scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23.
The Royals are 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the MEC.
Eastern Hancock is back in action Monday with a home conference match against Randolph Southern.
Girls golf
Deering leads Dragons
Freshman Lauren Deering shot a 38 to pave the way to a New Palestine girls golf team victory over Richmond and New Castle at the Elks Country Club in Richmond Wednesday.
New Palestine shot 171. Richmond was second with a 196 and New Castle finished at 225.
For the Dragons, Lauren Appleby shot 43, Lily Kirchner 44, Kate Stanfield 45, Katie Kelley 46 and Hanna Beller 49.
New Palestine is 10-2 in dual matches. They play Shelbyville Thursday at Blue Bear Golf Course.
Marauders lose by two strokes
Mt. Vernon’s girls golf team lost 182-184 to Delta Wednesday.
Mt. Vernon’s Izzy VanHeel had her best nine-hole match score of the season carding a 37 and was match medalist.
The match was played at Albany Golf Course, site of Saturday’s Hoosier Heritage Conference tournament.
Girls soccer
Cougars drop HHC match
Greenfield-Central’s girls soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Delta Wednesday, at the G-C Soccer Complex.
G-C is 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. Delta is 4-1-2 overall and 1-1 in the HHC.
The Cougars travel to Columbus North Saturday.
Boys tennis
Marauders defeat LN 5-0
Mt. Vernon’s junior varsity team defeated Lawrence North 5-0, at Mt. Vernon Wednesday.
Owen Daugherty won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2. Gavin Weaver won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-4 and Carter Harrington picked up the win at No. 3 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Eli Muterspaugh and Spencer Douglas were victorious 6-1, 6-0. Evan Kloc and Aaron Hohnbaum were winners by a 6-0, 6-2 count.
