Sugar Creek CrossFit is opening a fitness center along U.S. 40.

GREENFIELD — What once was a welding building off of U.S. 40 is now being renovated to offer CrossFit to the community of Greenfield.

Robbie Williams and Kristin Cooper, co-owners of the newly coming Sugar Creek CrossFit, both have a passion for CrossFit and working out. Both thought that 3599 West U.S. 40 in Greenfield would be a good location.

After sitting on the idea of opening their own facility for a few months and seeing some other possible locations that ended up not working out or feeling right, they finally found the former welding facility that felt like the right choice for CrossFit, according to Williams.

“CrossFit specifically is more than just workouts. It’s about community… CrossFit is more of a group fitness exercise where you’re doing constantly varied movements and you’re doing it with people,” Williams said.

The building will consist of a front area with offices and a recovery room, while in the middle they will have an area for gym equipment from Rogue Fitness and weights where someone can work at their own pace. More toward the back is where they will have their CrossFit and offer classes.

While some class ideas are still in the works, Williams said that they plan to offer traditional classes, weight lifting classes, intro classes for beginners and eventually add more as they go based on the needs of the community.

There will also be the addition of personal training and nutrition training for an additional cost.

For members, they’ll offer the traditional memberships, but will also include the option to have an addition of 24/7 hour access to the gym to get a workout in, even if it’s not during regular open hours. They’ll also offer memberships that don’t include classes, just free workouts or day passes.

Prices for memberships are still being determined.

Williams said that with their new business being a fitness center, there isn’t any major construction that has to happen. So far, they have been removing any leftovers from the previous owners and cleaning up the place before they move on to the next step. Starting this weekend, Williams shared they plan to start painting the facility and then in a week or two will come new flooring.

Williams shared that workouts can be scaled to fit a person’s fitness level. With the workouts eventually being posted in the gym every day, people can do the workout as prescribed, or it can be scaled down to fit injuries, needs and more.

“This will really help benefit people who want to try CrossFit, the traditional CrossFit experience. It’ll give them that box feel, which I think a lot of people try to go for and hopefully it’ll just be a big community thing where the community can come out and join in,” Williams said.

Once opened, Williams mentioned that they will also plan to offer free community events about once or twice a month, with possibly the idea of bringing a friend or allowing the public to experience and try out CrossFit.

“I think it’s going to be a big benefit to just the community in general for people who want to try it, and I think there are a lot of people who want to try it that are kind of scared to try it,” Williams said. “I think people think CrossFit and get intimidated, but really it’s about the community and I think when people try it they realize it’s a good push.”

While they are still getting the building put together and finalized, they are hoping to be open sometime in October.

Presales for memberships will start soon and the first 30 people who sign up will receive a swag bag. Additional apparel can be purchased at a later time.
