CENTERVILLE —After two big wins to begin the season, Eastern Hancock’s football team dropped a heartbreaker to Centerville to move to 2-1 on the year.

A rushing touchdown by Mark Kube on the final play of the game cut the Centerville lead to 22-21 and with no time left on the clock, Eastern Hancock head coach Pat Echeverria chose to go for the two-point conversion and the win.

On a pass from Elijah Edon, Kayden Ruble was stopped just short of the end zone, giving the Bulldogs the 22-21 victory.

The Royals struck first on the opening play from scrimmage, with Kube beginning a big night by taking the opening play 69 yards for the score. A successful conversion gave the Royals an 8-0 lead.

Centerville answered with a long run of their own on a direct snap to Nathan Dickenson, and a two-point conversion to tie things up.

Another Centerville rushing touchdown gave them a 15-8 halftime lead.

Kube tied it with a 1-yard score early in the fourth, but the Bulldogs took back the lead on another direct snap to Dickenson with just over five minutes remaining.

The Royals drove down field for the possible tying score, before the two-point attempt was stopped.

Kube led the Royals, scoring all three touchdowns.

Eastern Hancock takes on Heritage Christian at home at 7 p.m. next Friday.
