With three first-half goals, Mt. Vernon’s boys soccer team took control and went on to defeat visiting Yorktown 4-0 in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match Thursday.

Charlie Cole scored three of the Mt. Vernon goals. Shawn Houser had the other. Luke Alka, Zane Kaminski and Nick Heitman had assists.

Goalkeeper Will Keppler had five saves. Jayden Etherington had two saves.

Dragons lose at FC

New Palestine’s boys soccer team dropped to 3-4 on the season with a 2-1 loss at Franklin Central Thursday.

Elliott Canova, with New Palestine trailing 1-0, scored to even the match.

Franklin Central took the lead with the game’s final goal early in the second half.

Girls soccer

Four Dragons score in win

Tylar Whitaker, Allie Blum, Hannah Sund and Nevaeh Gebhart each scored goals in the New Palestine girls soccer team’s 4-0 win at Yorktown Thursday.

The Dragons are 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the HHC. Yorktown dropped to 2-2-1 and 1-2 in the conference.

Volleyball

Marauders improve to 2-0 in HHC

Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team defeated host Delta 3-1 Thursday to improve to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

The Marauders won by set scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-13.

Eastern earns MEC sweep

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team defeated Mid-Eastern Conference foe Blue River Valley 3-0, at home, Thursday.

The Royals (9-4, 2-1) won by set scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-19.

Girls golf

NP shoots low round

New Palestine shot a season-best, nine-hole team score of 157 in Thursday’s win at The Links over Cathedral (192).

Katie Kelley shot a personal-best 36. Lily Kirchner and Lauren Deering each carded 40s. Lauren Appleby and Kate Stanfield both had 41s.

New Palestine is 7-0 in dual matches.

Boys tennis

Marauders win HHC match

Mt. Vernon shut out Yorktown 5-0 Thursday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match in Fortville.

Adam Koon (6-0, 6-0), Manny Downs (6-0, 6-0) and Tate Cougill (6-1, 6-0) each won singles matches.

The No. 1 doubles team of Robbie Moore and Matthew Jones won 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Bryndan Wylie and Max Orelup picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

G-C coach wins No. 100

In a 5-0 victory over visiting Morristown Thursday, Greenfield-Central’s Michael Turpin won his 100th match as the boys varsity tennis coach.

The Cougars are 9-0 on the season.

Dragons win HHC match

The New Palestine boys tennis team defeated Shelbyville 3-2 Thursday.

The Dragons are 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with all three HHC matches ending in 3-2 scores.

On Thursday, New Palestine swept singles play with Moses Haynes, Arjomand Khokhar and Brady Torzewski.

Girls cross country

Study 3rd, NP 5th at Roundup

New Palestine senior Courtney Study placed third and the Dragons girls cross country team finished fifth out of 11 teams at Wednesday’s Arabian Roundup at Pendleton Heights High School.

Study ran her 5K in 21:10.2.

Pendleton Heights Ava Jarrell won the race in a course record time of 18:06.1.

Dragons 5th at roundup

New Palestine’s boys cross country team placed fifth out of 14 teams at Wednesday’s Arabian Roundup held at Pendleton Heights High School.

Jake Cooper led New Pal runners with a 5K time of 17:35.6, placing 1oth.

Wapahani’s Nick Cook won the race in 16:27.
