Volleyball

Greenfield-Central ran its record to 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 3-1 victory over visiting Delta Tuesday.

It was the first time the Cougars had lost a set since their second match of the season a 3-1 victory over Scecina or Aug. 14.

G-C won the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-16, 19-25, 25-15.

On Thursday, the Cougars travel to county and conference rival New Palestine.

Royals beats Raiders

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team improved to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory over host Shenandoah (1-7, 0-1) Tuesday.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-17.

Eastern Hancock is back in action Thursday with a conference match at home against Blue River Valley.

Marauders lose 5-setter

Mt. Vernon dropped to 7-4 on the season with a 3-2 loss at Brownsburg (5-5) Tuesday.

Set scores for the match were 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-9.

The Marauders return to the court Thursday with a Hoosier Heritage Conference match at Delta.

Girls soccer

Marauders score 5 in HHC win

Mt. Vernon’s girls soccer team, ranked No. 19 in the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Class 3A poll, improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 5-3 win at Shelbyville Tuesday.

Mattie Isger had two goals and an assist. Kylie Brandes had three assists. Esther Isger, Lily Muhlenkamp and Hannah Monroe added goals.

Taylor Bastin also had an assist.

Mt. Vernon hosts New Castle at 7 p.m. Thursday.

New Pal ties FC

New Palestine (3-2-1) tied visiting Franklin Central 1-1 Tuesday.

Tylar Whitaker had the Dragons goal.

New Palestine returns to Hoosier Heritage Conference action Thursday at Yorktown.

Cougars lose 1-0

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Pendleton Heights Tuesday

The Cougars are 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Greenfield-Central travels to Delta Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Boys tennis

Cougars get racket back

Greenfield Central’s boys tennis team beat visiting Delta 3-2 on Tuesday to reclaim the Hoosier Heritage Conference traveling racket trophy.

The Cougars were the first team in years to get the trophy from the Eagles last season, but they relinquished to rival Mt. Vernon. The Marauders then lost to Delta late last season.

This was the Eagles first conference loss this year.

Winners for G-C on Tuesday were Chris Long, Alex Michalek, Mateo Molanphy and Nathan Roberts.

The Cougars are now 2-0 in HHC matches. They travel to New Palestine today.

Royals sweep Hagerstown

Eastern Hancock’s boys tennis team earned a 5-0 win at Hagerstown Tuesday.

For the Royals, Luke Zeilinga, Luke Fletcher and Josiah Swauger won singles matches. Luke Schilling-Myles Wennen and Garrett Bridges-Bo Dixon won in doubles.

Eastern Hancock hosts Lapel today.

Dragons fall at Waldron

The New Palestine boys tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision at Waldron Tuesday.

The Dragons got wins from No. 1 singles player Arjomand Khokhar (6-2, 6-3) and the No. 2 doubles squad of Nick Parrett and Eli Sloan (6-1, 6-4).

At No. 1 doubles, Max Havel and Joey McPike lost a tight three-setter 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

In singles play, Luke Bartusek lost at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Carson Rush dropped a 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 3.

The Dragons will play host to county and conference foe Greenfield-Central today.
