With titles in three of five flights, Eastern Hancock’s boys tennis team won the Mid-Eastern Conference Tournament for the third time in the last four years. The tournament was played Saturday at Eastern Hancock High School.

Eastern Hancock accumulated 27 team points. Shenandoah was second with 16. Randolph Southern totaled 10 and Blue River Valley scored seven.

Luke Fletcher, for the second straight year, won the No. 2 singles title. Josiah Swauger won the No. 3 singles flight. Bo Dixon and Garrett Bridges won at No. 2 doubles. It was the second straight year Dixon won at No. 2 doubles.

MV grabs two titles, NP beats EH

Mt. Vernon finished second and had two flight champions at the Noblesville Invitational held at East Middle School Saturday.

Adam Koon won at No. 1 singles and Manny Downs won at No. 2 singles.

Koon won in straight sets in each of his three matches. Downs won his opening match 6-1, 6-7 (7), 10-4 before winning convincingly (24 of 27 games) in his final two matches.

Noblesville won the event with 33 points. Mt. Vernon scored 30. New Palestine placed fifth with 16.

The Dragons top finish came from Arjomand Khokhar, who placed third at No. 2 singles.

On Monday, in a dual meet at New Palestine, the Dragons defeated Eastern Hancock 5-0.

At No. 1 singles, Moses Haynes won 6-1, 6-0. Arjomand Khokhar was victorious 6-0, 6-1 and Brady Torzewski was victorious 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles play, Max Havel/Joey McPike won 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Tyler Wilson/Andrew Hahn won 6-3, 6-2.

Also on Monday, Mt. Vernon swept Centerville 5-0.

Girls golf

Dragons win New Pal Invite

New Palestine’s girls golf team shot 347 to win the New Palestine Invitational at The Links Saturday.

Katie Kelley led the Dragons, and was second overall, with a round of 81. Lauren Appleby shot an 86. Lauren Deering carded an 88, followed by Hanna Beller with a 92 and Lily Kirchner with a 93.

The Dragons White (second) team finished with a 395, led by Janie Hamilton’s 94. Matti Tiede-White finished with a 98. It was personal best rounds for both golfers.

Also for the Dragons, Kate Stanfield had a 98. Tessa Mohr finished with a 105 and Alyssa Beller had a 113.

Girls soccer

New Pal wins HHC opener

New Palestine (3-2, 1-0) started its Hoosier Heritage Conference girls soccer season with a 5-1 victory at home against Delta (1-1-1, 0-1) Saturday.

After trailing 1-0, New Palestine scored five straight goals.

Freshman Hannah Sund scored twice, her first two varsity goals, and Shaylee Frank, Vivian Miller and Tyler Whitaker added tallies. Whitaker, Brooke Tanksley and Nevaeh Gebhart had assists.

MV falls at Homestead

Mt. Vernon’s girls soccer team fell to 3-2 on the season with a 4-2 loss at Homestead (4-1-1) Saturday.

Kylie Brandes had both of Mt. Vernon’s goals.

Mt. Vernon came into the game ranked No. 20 in the state’s Class 3A poll. Homestead was No. 7.

Boys soccer

G-C falls in HHC opener

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team lost 2-1 at Yorktown (1-2-1, 1-1) Saturday.

Gavin Jack scored the Greenfield-Central (1-6, 0-1) goal.

Dragons shut out

New Palestine’s boys soccer team lost a 2-0 decision at Lawrence Central Saturday.

The Dragons dropped to 2-3. Lawrence Central is 4-0.
