Libraries to host events for all ages

GREENFIELD – Several free events are coming up in September for children and teens at both branches of the Hancock County Public Library.

In Greenfield, teens can enjoy classic tabletop games and video games in an event Sept. 7; and a take-apart technology program Sept. 18. Children’s programs at the main branch include “The Ancient World” Sept. 14; “National Talk Like a Pirate Day” Sept. 19; and a “Lego Free Build” event Sept. 26. The library is located at 900 W. New Palestine’s Sugar Creek branch library offers book clubs and writing clubs throughout the month; tween/teen fabric printing art Sept. 12; “Pals and PJs” for children ages 3-7 Sept. 19; a “Dot Day Party” for grades 1-5 Sept. 14; and scarecrow crafts for school-aged children Sept. 28. Children’s theater auditions coming up

GREENFIELD – Auditions are coming up for “The Snow White Variety Show” presented by KidsPlay Inc. children’s theater.

Auditions are 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 29 for returning KidsPlay members, and 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 31 for new auditioners. Parts are available for up to 48 speaking roles and 12 dancers. New auditioners should come prepared with an audition monologue of one minute or less. Rehearsals will be from 6-8:30 pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays; performance dates are Nov. 10-12. Pop-up storybook class available

GREENFIELD – Children can be immersed in storytelling and art in an upcoming course by Greenfield Parks and Recreation art Studio.

“Pop-Up Storybooks” workshops will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 6, 13 and 20 for children in grades kindergarten through sixth. Participants will come up with their own unique story, create characters and landscapes, and learn basic techniques to make illustrations pop. Community baby shower coming up

FORTVILLE – A Fortville Community Baby Shower is planned for this month.

The free event for new or expectant mothers and families will be 5-7 p.m. Aug. 29 at Fortville Nazarene Church, 701 S. Maple St., door 3, Fortville. The event will include informational tables with resources, refreshments and a free raffle. At 6 p.m. is the ABCs of Safe Sleep Class, where the first 30 registrants will receive free items. Parents invited to support meeting

GREENFIELD – A parent support training session is coming up for parents of children with special needs.

IN*SOURCE, a nonprofit organization in Indiana, will host a meeting titled “Communicating with Schools: Collaborative Strategies for Positive Outcomes.” The event is at 10 a.m. Aug. 30 at the main branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Special education liaison Angela Bear will provide ideas to build relationships between parents and schools through verbal and nonverbal communication.
