Free bicycle helmets available Friday

GREENFIELD – Free bicycle helmets for children, along with coloring books, stickers and Bike Safe Indiana resources will be available this Friday.

INDOT will give items away at the family/kids bike ride event as part of the Hancock Flat 50 from 5-6 p.m. Aug. 25. The supplies will be on a first-come basis and located in the Hancock County Courthouse Annex parking lot, at American Legion Place and the Pennsy Trail. Supplies will also be available in the Living Alley in downtown Greenfield, located near a kids bike-riding simulator on North Street just west of the Wooden Bear Brewing Co.

The Hancock Flat 50 is a 25- and 50-mile bicycle ride Saturday that is designed to include people of all abilities. More than 700 riders from across the country are expected to arrive and the front runners are racing, but anybody can join in on the event or attend the family/kids bike ride Friday. Bowling fundraiser to benefit soup kitchen

GREENFIELD – The Strike Out Hunger annual bowling fundraiser benefiting the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen is coming up.

The event will be 1-4 p.m. Aug. 27 at Strike Force Lanes, 1539 W. Main St., Greenfield. Registration opens at noon. The event will include a kids play and game area, face painting and air brush tattoos. Form a bowling team for $25 per person (price includes ball and shoe rental). There will also be door prizes, a silent auction and raffle. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Parents invited to support meeting

GREENFIELD – A parent support training session is coming up for parents of children with special needs.

IN*SOURCE, a nonprofit organization in Indiana, will host a meeting titled “Communicating with Schools: Collaborative Strategies for Positive Outcomes.” The event is at 10 a.m. Aug. 30 at the main branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Special education liaison Angela Bear will provide ideas to build relationships between parents and schools through verbal and nonverbal communication. Golf fundraiser to help public safety

KNIGHTSTOWN – The Hancock County Joint Tactical Team will host its 2023 Golf Tournament Fundraiser Sept. 20.

The event will be at 2 p.m. at Royal Highlands, 7629 S. Greensboro Pike, Knightstown. The event will raise funds for equipment and training. Register for $280 per team; $100 hole sponsorships are also available. To register, contact Justin Jackson at 317-498-0660.
