New Palestine improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 5-1 boys soccer victory at Yorktown Thursday.

Elliott Canova had a pair of goals and Cole Christopher, Cohen Wintin and Andon Colclazier each had one.

The Dragons led 3-1 at halftime, with two goals from Canova and one from Christopher.

New Palestine travels to Brownsburg Saturday.

Cougars lose to Cathedral

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team lost at Cathedral 8-0 Thursday.

Greenfield-Central (0-3) is back in action Saturday hosting the Cougar Cup.

Boys tennis

EH starts season with victory

In a 5-0 sweep, Eastern Hancock’s boys tennis team opened the season with a win, at home, over Rushville.

Luke Zeilinga, Luke Fletcher and Josiah Swauger each won singles matches.

Myles Wennen and Luke Schilling won at No. 1 doubles. Bo Dixon and Seth Richey picked up the victory at No. 2 doubles.

The Royals are back in action today against Southwestern.

Marauders open with win

Mt. Vernon’s boys tennis team started the 2023 season with a 4-1 victory at Franklin Central Wednesday.

The Marauders swept singles play.

At No. 1, Adam Koon was victorious 6-0, 6-3. At No. 2, Manny Downs won 6-1, 6-4. At No. 3, Tate Cougill earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory.

Mt. Vernon split the doubles matches.

At No. 1, Robbie Moore and Bryndan Wylie lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The No. 2 team of Matthew Jones and Max Orelup won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

The Marauders are back in action today, hosting Floyd Central.

Cougars victorious

Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team opened the season with a 5-0 victory at Lawrence Central.

The Cougars return to action Saturday at the Franklin Invitational.

Match postponed

New Palestine’s home Hoosier Heritage Conference boys tennis match with Yorktown, scheduled for Thursday, was postponed due to inclement weather.

A makeup date has not been announced.

Volleyball

Cougars improve to 3-0

Greenfield-Central’s volleyball team improved to 3-0 with a 3-0 win at Greensburg Wednesday.

The Cougars won by set scores of 25-19, 26-24, 25-20.

Greenfield-Central plays Saturday at the Covenant Christian Invitational.

Girls golf

Dragons win on fifth-score tiebreaker

New Palestine’s girls golf team beat Lawrence Central and Southport at The Links Thursday.

The Dragons and the Bears tied with a score of 200, but New Pal won on its fifth-player’s score. Southport finished with a 208.

For New Palestine, Janie Hamilton led with a 46. Hanna Beller scored 47. Matti Tiede-Whited carded a 50 and Alyssa Beller finished with a 57. The Dragons’ fifth player, Tessa Mohr had a 64.

Golf postponed

Eastern Hancock’s home girls golf match at Royal Hylands Golf Course, scheduled for Thursday, against Triton Central and Southwestern was postponed due to inclement weather.
