Martha Leona (Kempf) Horton passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 10, 2023. She was born on January 7, 1932, in Schnellville, Indiana. She lived a vibrant life of 91 years filled with love, kindness, and gentle warmth. She married the love of her life, H. Thomas Horton Jr. on April 18, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Schnellville, Indiana.

Martha’s life was marked by her love for nature and the outdoors. She always loved watching for the famous Greenfield Bald Eagles. She was a passionate flower gardener and rug hooker. She also had a zest for travel and enjoyed exploring new places with her husband, Tom and on coach tours with her sisters. However, above all, Martha’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.

She is survived by her children, Linda Horton-Wiener (Dennis), William (Nancy) Horton, Jane (Clay) Layne, Lisa (Jim) McConnell, James (Pamela) Horton, and Richard (Melissa) Horton, grandchildren, Craig (Nelly) Horton, Sterling (Kaitlyn) Horton, Hunter Horton (Jade Dean), Janna (Allen) Flesner, Jim Poole (Leigha Naeole), Doug McConnell (Mallory Bowles), Katie McConnell, Amanda (Doug) Fagan, Hannah Horton, and 11 great-grandchildren. Siblings Charlie Kempf, Eugene Kempf, Stella Hart, Ellie Hammond, and Bernie Eslager, Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Tom Horton, her brothers Linus Kempf, Norbert Kempf, Tony Kempf, and her sister Virginia McCoy.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140. Fr. Mike Keucher will preside. Burial will follow mass at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
