New Palestine’s girls golf team opened the season with an impressive third-place finish at the Greensburg Invitational, held Saturday at Greensburg Country Club.

Franklin Community and Center Grove White tied for the low team score, each scored 315. New Palestine followed with a 347.

The Dragons were led by freshman Lauren Deering with an 80. Sophomore Katie Kelley followed with an 84. Seniors Lauren Appleby and Katie Stanfield carded a 91 and 92, respectively. Junior Lily Kirchner was close behind with a 93.

Greenfield-Central shot a 478. The Cougars were led by Ella Neill with a 104. Tanessa O’Neal shot a 117. Della Hedge had a 126 and Kynsey Hasty finished with a 131.

Other team scores for the event included: Richmond 353, Franklin County 363, Mooresville 370, Columbus East 377, Heritage Christian 379, East Central 399, Greenwood Christian Academy 399, Franklin Central 403, Rushville 417, Madison 424, Greensburg 456, Indian Creek 464, Shelbyville 470 and North Decatur 474.

East Central’s Rowan Pies was the individual medalist with a round of 67.

Both Greenfield-Central and New Palestine had dual meets scheduled Monday.

The Dragons hosted Greenwood at The Links in New Palestine and defeated the Woodmen 178-210.

Appleby was medalist with a 43. Kelley shot 44. Deering and Hanna Beller each had 45s. Kirchner and Stanfield carded 46 and 47, respectively. Janie Hamilton had a 48.

Greenfield-Central was slated to travel to Rushville.
