Motorcycle ride to benefit animal group
FORTVILLE – A benefit ride for Almost Heaven Farm Animal Sanctuary is today, Aug. 5.
The ride begins at the Fortville VFW, 206 S. Main St., Fortville, and ends at Woody’s Bar and Grill, 737 Main St., Lapel. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with kickstands up at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15 per bike, plus $5 per passenger; breakfast is provided. Mental health, wellness groups starting up
GREENFIELD – Several wellness groups are starting up this month at Wellspring Center in Greenfield.
Living Grace is for those living with a mental health difficulty or disorder; Family Grace helps individuals care for themselves as they care for those living with a mental health issue; Power UP is for children ages 9-12 to help them overcome life challenges; Redefine Grace is for ages 13-17 and offers mental health solutions; Grief Share is a support group to help after the death of a loved one; Breaking the Chains of Trauma for Women is a peer group for trauma-related issues; and Recovery & Renewal is for both men and women to support a healthy lifestyle free from addiction.

Pool party for dogs coming up
GREENFIELD – P.A.W.S. Hancock County will host its annual pool party for dogs and their families from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 12.
The event is at the Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center in Riley Park. Cost is $15 for one adult and one dog; $3 for each additional adult or dog, with a maximum of $25. Dogs must have proof of current rabies, bordetella and distemper vaccinations. Visit facebook.com/PAWSHancock for updates.
Educational program on trees coming to library
GREENFIELD – “The Treasure of Trees” will be presented at the Hancock County Public Library Aug. 12, featuring speakers on how to pick, plant, and prune trees.
The Master Gardeners Green Thumb Project event is 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12 at the main branch of the library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Speakers include Lais McCartney, educator for Purdue Extension, on Indiana’s keystone trees and the importance of native trees to the food web; professional foresters Brian Gandy and Michael Bane on forestry and resources in the area; and arborist Andrew Sargent on how to select, plant and tend a tree properly. Lunch will be provided at noon by the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation district.
