Local group donates backpacks, supplies

HANCOCK COUNTY – Those still in need of school supplies should speak with their school counselor, who might be able to get backpacks or supplies from local organization Blue Angel Connect.

BAC works with local school counselors in Hancock and Henry counties, including all elementary schools in the Mt. Vernon, Greenfield-Central and Eastern Hancock school districts. While families in need of assistance should reach out to their school counselor, those that are not included in listed elementary schools may also receive supplies by emailing [email protected]. Include the child’s name, age, school and grade level. Assistance is on a first-come, first served basis. To learn more or to donate to Blue Angel Connect, visit blueangelconnect.org.

Author with local ties to speak at event

GREENFIELD – A young adult author with Greenfield roots will return to the community for an event about writing and publishing books Aug. 9.

Kyle Willis, author of “Jason Phoenix and the Demon Lamp” will speak on the process of writing, editing, publishing and marketing a book at the event at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the main branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. The event is for teens and adults; registration for the free event is at hcplibrary.org.

Willis is a Greenfield-Central High School and Hanover College graduate who currently lives in Columbus, Ind.

School foundation planning gala event

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Central School Foundation is hosting its annual Red Letter Gala Sept. 30 and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $6,000 and must be received by Sept. 3 for inclusion in the program.

MVHS class reunion coming up

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon High School Class of 1973 is planning a 50-year celebration.

Band, guard to host golf fundraiser

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield-Central Band and Guard Summer Scramble fundraiser is coming up at noon Aug. 20 at links Golf Club in New Palestine.

The event is $85 per person for a quartet scramble; hole and cart sponsors are available. Enter by Aug. 13; see the Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation’s Facebook site for a registration link.

Yovanovich graduates from RIT

MCCORDSVILLE – Alexander Yovanovich of McCordsville recently graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology.

He holds a masters degree in materials science and engineering and a bachelor’s degree in microelectronic engineering. RIT is located in Rochester, New York.

Brown earns educational grant

GREENFIELD – The Indiana Association of Public Education Foundations recently named Ginny Brown as a recipient of a professional growth grant.

Brown is director of the Greenfield Central School Foundation. The grant will allow for coursework at The Fund Raising School; she was among 14 grant recipients statewide.
