HANCOCK COUNTY — Officials from the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.Team) investigated a crash between a motorcycle and pickup truck that occurred late Sunday afternoon, killing the motorcycle rider at the scene.
The accident happened between McCordsville and Fortville on U.S. 36 (Ind. 67), Hancock County at approximately 4:25 p.m. Sunday, July 30. The man driving the motorcycle was the one who died in the crash and has identified as Robert Siuzdak, 30, of Avon. Captain Robert Harris, Public Information officer for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said despite wearing a helmet, Siuzdak was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies arrived on the scene shortly after the crash happened and called for the F.A.C.Team to respond due to the severity of the crash, officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.
The crash involved a 2006 Kawasaki Motorcycle and a 2014 Chevy Silverado Pickup. The Chevy Silverado was occupied by one male driver, who reported no injuries.
According to officials, the Kawasaki was traveling east on U.S. 36 toward Fortville. Witnesses stated the driver of the Kawasaki was traveling at a very high rate of speed and passed several vehicles in a no-passing area shortly before the crash happened.
The Silverado was crossing both lanes of U.S. 36 to continue north on CR 400W when the crash happened. From the evidence on scene, it appears the Silverado had crossed the eastbound lane and was crossing the westbound lane of U.S. 36 at the same time the Kawasaki was traveling at a high rate of speed and crossed over into the westbound lane to pass other vehicles.
The move caused the Kawasaki driven by Siuzdak to hit the side of the Silverado. The driver of the Silverado was wearing his seat-belt during the crash. He was identified as Bradley Adkins, 39, a resident of Greenfield. Officials say Adkins cooperated fully with the investigation and has provided officials with a statement. Members of the F.A.C.Team say that drugs and alcohol are not suspected as a cause of the crash at this time.
The crash caused U.S. 36 to be closed for approximately two hours while the F.A.C.Team conducted their on-scene investigation.
